Ever been there? Where you’ve had enough and just want to get going already?
Sometimes we really just want to go full-throttle in order to solve a problem. We have reached our limit, and are going to allow nothing to stand in our way. Except that maybe we haven’t a clue what to DO…
There are many reasons that might lead someone to seek intensive therapy:
-
-
- Desire to use up benefits before they expire:
- Be sure to check with your benefits provider on how your coverage works (i.e., total amounts, timing of benefit year, daily allowances, etc.).
- Travel and time-off considerations:
- This format works very well for out-of-town visitors, as well as for local folks who have a break from other responsibilities for a week or two (i.e., vacation time that needs to be used up).
- Wanting solutions quickly:
- There is a skillful way to promote results, and expert planning for acute/intensive individual needs is critical.
- The way things have been is no longer an option:
- Something(s) has happened. It isn’t good. We are desperate for support, a plan, hope, change. Need it now.
- Being ready to do the work:
- This is crucial to all therapy work, though even more intensely for, well, intensives!
- Desire to use up benefits before they expire:
-
The reason we offer intensives at Pinnacle Psych is similar to the reason we don’t – and won’t – have a waitlist. People are suffering enough, and there is sometimes/often a very tiny window of opportunity, in terms of the client being ready, and the services being available RIGHT THEN.
We have had people come to Pinnacle Psych from across the country for intensives. Nunavut, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec – different challenges led them to seek therapy, and for many reasons, Pinnacle was the right fit. Here are some of the topics that can be tackled in an intensive format:
-
-
- Grit and Growth Mindset
- Creativity and Flow
- ADHD Management
- Substance Use Challenges
- Tourette’s Syndrome and Tic Disorders
- Depression and Anxiety
- Parent Coaching and Support

What does intensive therapy look like? The answer – many different things are possible. There might be some pre-work that happens (i.e., completing developmental history forms, reading selected materials, prior to the first session). The sessions themselves can come in many formats, including extra-long daily sessions (i.e., 2-3 hours at once), or in shorter multiple-sessions-a-day offerings (i.e., 2-3 1-hour sessions in a day). Intensives, depending on the presenting concern and the session formats, usually occur for several days, over a 1-2 week period. Some people will attend for 1 week, go “away” to do the work, and then return to synthesize and troubleshoot (basically, identify and plan for next steps). We will craft a gameplan for your intensive together, ensuring that you derive the greatest efficiency, traction, and benefit for your efforts.
Reach out to Kathleen today to begin to create your individualized treatment plan. Much is possible, even when hope is grim. You just need to come to the table (office) and plunk it all down. Pinnacle Psych will guide you with the rest.
